Archdiocese of Chicago Parish Transformation Process Link

St. Barbara On-Line Questionnaire Link (To be completed by Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13)

In February, our parish enters into the Parish Transformation Process.  The program has been going on for at least two years in the Archdiocese of Chicago, and ALL parishes are expected to go through the process. St. Barbara has been invited by Bishop Rojas to begin the Parish Transformation process this February.   Blessed Sacrament Parish, our neighbors in McKinley Park, went through the process and found it very beneficial for the faith life of the parish.  The Parish Transformation Process is intended to be an impetus for the spiritual and pastoral renewal of our parish.  There will be a series of 12 weekly meetings, beginning in February through May.  In Part I, during the first 6 weeks, our parish’s strengths or “pearls of great price” that give our parish its distinct character will be identified.  Also, those areas in parish life and ministry which may be weak or benefit from new development are also identified.  Part 2 of Parish Transformation focuses on developing an action plan in the areas of Mission, Finances, and School.  The goal of Parish Transformation is first and foremost a process of spiritual renewal, evangelization, and conversion.

The meetings are coordinated by a facilitator from the Archdiocese.  These 12 meetings will mostly be on Thursday at St. Barbara from 7-9 p.m. beginning February 7 and continuing through May.  I am told that an ideal number is about 30 parishioners for these meetings.  The composition of the group should span the ages and be ethnically mixed.  The groups should not only be composed of current dedicated, involved parishioners, but also new faces.  Last weekend, I approached a number of parishioners after Mass, and invited them to consider being a part of this process.  Please let Fr. Andrzej or myself know if you are interested.  Also needed is a steering committee of 5-6 people coming from this larger group.

The steering committee will have an orientation.  The in-person option is: Tuesday, Jan. 15, 7:00-9:00 pm, St. Eugene School Gym, 7930 W. Foster Ave, Chicago, 60656  The Webinar option is: Friday, Jan. 18, 10-12 p.m.  Link for access to the webinar:  https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/718909025

Also, all parishioners are asked to complete an online survey by Ash Wednesday, February 13, located at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PTSpring2013English.  If you do not have internet access, hard copy surveys will be in the back of church.  A large number of people completing the questionnaire will give us a better idea of currently where St. Barbara is at as a Parish.

I have talked to a number of pastors who have gone through the Parish Transformation Process, and all speak very highly of the process. Please consider agreeing to become a part of this most important process for the future of St. Barbara Parish.

Meetings will be from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Senior Center on Thursdays: February 7, no 14, 21, 28, Mar 7, 14, 21, no 28, no Apr 4, Apr 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Dennis Ziomek
